Second Compulsory Language Education


In addition to the Preparatory Class and Department Courses of Academic English, Yasar University School of Foreign Languages, has been running second language courses in 6 different foreign languages for the departments and students since the 2009-2010 academic year.

Initially in 2009-2010 academic year, the second language course options included French, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Greek in the levels pre-intermediate and below. Starting from the academic year 2010-2011 Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese languages were added to the options. In accordance with the needs of the departments and programs, these courses are given as elective or compulsory, 3 hours a week. Students can have almost 200 hours of second language courses in 4 semesters. These courses are conducted by instructors who are native speakers of these languages or are fluent in these languages at native speaker level.

The curriculum of the lessons are determined with regard to international standards, guidelines and with the consultation of the departments and programs. A student who regularly attends the second language courses, can have basic knowledge in grammar rules of the target language. That student can understand written texts in that language generally, listen to daily conversations and express himself in a basic academic platform .
